Ministry in progress

I was at a conference this weekend in a church building in Birmingham. Signs like this were all over the place. It made me think what will Church life look like if that is the mentality- ministry happens only at certain times in special places and is done by special people (and must not be interrupted by a careless Christian wandering into a "Restricted Area" where ministry is taking place!).
Hmmm.
Then I thought, what would our churches be like if we had a mindset that took down all those signs (AND especially all our metaphorical ones that make us act in this weird restricted way) and all thought of ourselves as gospel ministers in all that we do. Taking on those priorities and responsibilities wherever we are and all the time.
Hmmm.

The idea of having one specific sign rather than lots of different ones that will get lost is commendable. The fact that the sign sounds so 'correct' that it's very bad is, as you say, absolutely ludicrous. Part time Christians...

hi Andy

Until we get away from the fixation that we MUST have full-time, professional ministers who have certain ministries that only they do at certain times and in certain places,we will never break away from this mindset. We will continue to devalue the contributions and ministries of others and continue to fail to invest time and effort in training up 'non-professionals'.
